The Club is very sad to have to advise the death of renowned coach and journalist,Charlie Elliott.
Charlie Elliott 8.8.32 - 29.12.10
Charlie was a tireless worker for Athletics,as an accompanying note from Peter Browne of TVH highlights, and much of his charm arose from his desire to help others enjoy our sport.
He was a member at Poly for a period when he coached several members, but he was also a Team Manager par excellence. In those days, the 60s mostly,Trophy and InterClub Meetings were the order of the day for Senior and Junior Sections, and Charlie spent a fortune chasing and encouraging athletes to compete for the Poly, much to the chagrin of some of his more conservative fellow Committee members, when he submitted the occasional expenses claim - no E Mail then, just postcards, day after day after day after day, to remind you of the next meeting!! He was selfless, and,I guess, what might be termed a maverick, even a renegade, but that was his forte and his attraction - and it worried him not a lot.
Great to have known you,Charlie!
